Converting analog RF signals into light, then transporting the optical signal over fiber optic cable, is a complex process which requires a high degree of technical know-how and expertise. Incoming RF signals from the antenna or signal source are fed into Optical Zonu’s Transmitter Module via the 50 Ohm RF connector. The Transmitter Module contains RF signal conditioning and provides complex impedance matching between 50 Ohm input impedance and the Laser, Laser Bias Control, APC, Monitoring and Alarm electronics. The Transmitter Module utilizes an Intensity Modulation scheme to convert RF signals into light. This modulated light is then transported through an optical fiber to the Optical Receiver Module. The Receiver Module converts the modulated light back into an RF signal. The recovered RF signal is again complex impedance matched and amplified before it becomes available at the output of the Receiver Module.
Optical Zonu is a leader of Radio Frequency over Fiber Optics (RF-over-Fiber) technology and we supply the full array of RF over Fiber products. Our product portfolio consists of a wide selection of modular and system level solutions that are tailored for each customer’s application. Standard broadband (47 MHz to 3 GHz) and extended frequency (10 KHz to 3.3 GHz) RF over Fiber modules are used in systems that provide wireless coverage enhancement and in-building distribution of GSM, PCS, CDMA, WCDMA, 3G, DVB-T, WIFA mobile systems. UHF and VHF signal distribution for public-safety, GPS-over-Fiber, applications requiring transmission of IF-Band, L-Band, S-Band, and C- Band are typical examples of applications that routinely make use of our products.
Ultra broadband (10 MHz – 7 GHz) RF-over-Fiber links with cooled DFB Lasers are available for applications that require very low Noise Figure (NF) or High Dynamic Range (SFDR). Typical military applications such as antenna remoting, phased array radars, and spectrum monitoring require stable performance over wide temperature variance.
Operating temperature of our RF-over-Fiber links ranges between -20C to +75C and with the proper enclosures, these links can perform in harsh outdoor environments such as mines, tunnels, and building roofs. Also, our ultra broadband RF-over-Fiber links allow you to future-proof your existing system in the presence of emerging wireless technologies such as 4G, LTE, and Wi-Max.
