J3U Quad Transmitter/Receiver

Optical Zonu provides various types of solutions for distribution of wireless signals. Common applications include Cellular carriers, public safety wireless, land mobile radio, and ISM type services. Outside of the applications listed, RF over fiber technology can be applied to any type of RF carrier. If you have an application in mind that is not described, reach out to a sales engineer to discuss your application today

Cellular to DAS Connectivity

One of the most common Wireless transport applications for Optical Zonu equipment is cellular applications. This is simplified by the fact that most wireless cellular bands can be multiplexed into uplink and downlink paths. There are two types of cellular transport that are common; base station to DAS headend, and donor antenna to BDA. For BTS to DAS a single fiber can carry up to 6 individual bands for 2 MIMO or 4 SISO sectors – up to 6 Bands each. This high capacity can save cost of fiber path costs or leases in the case when the infastructure is not owned by the operator.

Public Safety

With Public Safety wireless service being required in more and more locations, sometimes it becomes necessary to deliver a source of that service over fiber. Optical Zonu provides many types of equipment for these applications.

Description
  • Optical Zonu provides comprehensive suite of high-performance solutions to compliment and expand indoor and outdoor cellular Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).
  • Fiber is a RF transport system over fiber that has superior performance compared to coax cables for the wireless frequencies and is widely used for antenna remoting.
  • Analog RF over fiber systems are available for all major cellular carriers (globally), Public Safety and FirstNet, Wi-Fi and ISM wireless protocols, as well as LMR and other handheld radio communications.
  • Minimizing Equipment – Extremely dense links provide up to 3 MIMO bi-directional paths over a single fiber
  • Any Cellular Band including PCS AWS CBRS for LTE 4G and 5G.
  • 24/7 Access – Simple Remote monitoring and control GUI provides 24/7 monitoring and alarms to guarantee uptime – ManagedRFoF
  • Highest Spectral Efficiency – ZONUConnect provides a remote base station connection solution that cannot be matched by any other approach.
  • Minimum Commissioning Time – the simplicity of ZONUConnect means that even the largest systems can be deployed and commissioned in less than a day.
  • Automatic discovery and gain setting for commissioning
  • Full NMS, GUI, SNMP and RESTful APIs. See ManagedRFoF
  • Guaranteed Transparent Operation – The simple set up procedures ensure that ZONUConnect provides a noiseless connection for any base station and DAS configuration.
  • Proven Track record for very large installations (e.g. major airport (all terminals, parking and service areas) for all 3 carriers including private network

ZONUConnect can be used to connect any type of base station to any DAS system. The architecture is flexible and can be adapted to a variety of installation and service requirements. The system is based off interface trays on each end, with optical transport in the middle. 2 MIMO sectors (up to 6 bands) over single fiber.

Wireless coverage problems for Small and mid-size venues can be solved easily with an off-air antenna, bi-directional amplifier (BDA) or RF booster feeding indoor antennas. The required location for the donor antenna (off-air is outdoors) is often too far away for coaxial cable to be practical. RF over Fiber is a RF transport system over fiber that has superior performance compared to coax cables for the wireless frequencies and is widely used for antenna remoting.

Optical Zonu’s Antenna Extender provides an easy-to-install RF over Fiber optic link between the outdoor donor antenna and BDA. Point to Point for single BDA or Point to Multipoint (Simulcast) solutions that are simple to install.

The link consists of a compact Antenna Unit that connects to the donor antenna and a mechanically identical Equipment Unit(s) that connects to the BDA(s). The two or more units are connected by a single strand of optical fiber to provide a robust RF connection for distances of 3,000 ft. and more. The units require no adjustments and can be powered locally or remotely (via hybrid fiber copper cable).
